About

Why we built Maintenance Crew

Twenty years of sailing, several boats between us, and a partner I’d rather be on the water with than anyone else — that’s where Maintenance Crew comes from. Every boat we’ve owned has come with its own list of projects: systems to fix, replace, or finally get right, one afternoon at a time.

Along the way we’ve spent as much time helping other boat owners work through their own lists — at the dock, at anchor, in owners’ groups and club meetings — as we have working through our own. Maintenance Crew is our attempt to put that same kind of help in your pocket.

Keeping track of it all — the maintenance, the spare parts, what’s aboard and what needs replacing — got tedious long before we did anything about it. We wanted something better than a static list: something we could actually share with each other without dragging in the noise of the wider internet — no feed, no strangers, no algorithm, just the two of us and the boat.

That’s still the rule the app follows. When you share a boat with a partner or co-owner in Maintenance Crew, that data moves directly between your own devices through your own Apple accounts — we don’t see it, don’t hold a copy of it, and have no access to it ourselves. It only exists to hand back the information and tools you actually need, when you need them.
